Frequently Asked Questions - FIRE SAFETY DIVISION Page 2
The submission of Automatic Gaseous Fire Suppression System (AGFSS) calculations to JBPM is made after the appointment of the contractor is implemented. However, calculations for other systems such as hose reel, wet riser and sprinkler system must be submitted at an early stage together with the M&E plan.
After the appointment of the contractor, a complete AGFSS plan such as schematic, isometric and calculation plans must be submitted immediately.
Fire Safety Installation Requirements (PKK) are uniform throughout the country according to the Tenth Schedule of the Fire Safety Act 1984 (Amendment 2021).
The installation of a fireman's switch must be in accordance with Sections 240(1) & 240(2) of the Fire Protection Act 1984 (Amended 2021).
Based on UUK 240, the function of the firemen switch is to disconnect the electrical power supply to the floor or zone in question. The use of a contactor or shunt trip is permitted as long as it complies with UUK 240.
The concerned party may refer to the Fire Safety Division, Headquarters if they have any questions.
Standard plans (without site plans) are processed and approved at the JBPM Headquarters level and can be used nationwide. Submit the approved standard plan to the state JBPM along with a site plan showing access to fire equipment and the location of fire hydrants. The state JBPM no longer needs to provide comments on the standard plan except for access and fire hydrants.
For fire brigade access and fire hydrants, the Public Works Department must discuss with the State Fire and Rescue Department for the placement of both items.
The maximum distance from hose reel to hose reel is set at 50 meters because this distance will meet the coverage of the hose reel based on MS 1489-1. The location of the hose reel is planned based on the overall coverage of the hose reel which can cover the entire floor plan and is marked on the architectural plan.
The following things should be taken into account when planning the location of the hose reel:
I. The path to the hose reel must not be obstructed by any equipment or devices;
ii. The position of interior walls, partitions, storage racking and other obstructions that may limit hose reel coverage.
