Fire Certificate
FIRE CERTIFICATE
A fire certificate is a certificate issued to premises that are categorized as designated premises. All designated premises must have a fire certificate issued by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department. The categories of designated premises are as follows:-

For new premises, an application must be made as soon as the Certificate of Fitness (CF) or Temporary Certificate of Fitness (TCF) or Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) is obtained.
Applications can be made at the State JBPM Headquarters or Fire Zone Office where the designated premises are located which are the offices for processing any Fire Certificate applications.
Applicants must make an application by submitting Form I and provide the following information:-
i.Copy of CCC or CFO
ii. Building Plan (which has been certified by JBPM during the issuance of CCC/CFO)
iii. Latest premises ownership letter
iv. Land ownership rights
v. Copy of gate tax
vi. Business license
A date will be determined by the JBPM for the applicant to conduct an inspection of the designated premises. If all Fire Safety Installation systems are in good and satisfactory condition, a fire certificate will be issued within 5 days from the date the fee is paid. The period of validity of a fire certificate for a designated premises is twelve (12) months.
All designated premises shall be electrically or telephoned to the nearest Fire Station by means of a switchboard to provide immediate and automatic alarm transmission in the event of an emergency.
A Fire Certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue and must be renewed annually.
Applications for renewal of Fire Certificates must be made using Form III and made not less than 30 days before the expiry date of the fire certificate. Fee for fire certificate renewal is half of fire certificate fee the first one.
Applications for renewal of fire certificate submitted less than 30 days from the expiry date may be subject to a late penalty of RM 100. Applications for renewal of fire certificate submitted after the expiry date must submit a fire certificate application using Form I and full payment as the first application will be charged.
If any designated premises already have a Fire Certificate that is still in force, no modifications (changes in conditions) may be made that cause fire safety equipment to become inadequate. The applicant must submit a proposed plan to this department before implementing the renovation work begins. The department will review the submitted plan and issue a certificate on the proposed plan. Subsequently, an inspection will be arranged before the issuance of a fire certificate. A new fire certificate will be issued if payment is made fee while an amended fire certificate is issued if payment is not made fee.
Any applicant may appeal to the Minister after notification of the refusal or decision:-
i. The Director General refuses to issue a fire certificate;
ii. The conditions imposed on the certificate being issued cannot be complied with; or
iii. By any decision by the Director General by amending a fire certificate or a new fire certificate.
i. Making changes to the conditions at designated premises for which a fire certificate is in effect without notice.
ii. Failure to comply with instructions to take steps to ensure adequate fire safety equipment.
iii. Does not have a firefighter certificate.
iv. Making or forging or possessing a fire certificate.
v. Making any statement or providing any false information when applying for a fire certificate.
vi. Transfer or assign or allow any other person to use his fire certificate.
vii. Failing to notify the Director General in writing of the lost or destroyed fire certificate,
viii. Not submitting information as required.
ix. Not displaying a fire certificate at all times.
