FIRE INVESTIGATION DIVISION
Mission
The Fire Investigation Division is committed to conducting professional and competent fire investigations, as well as carrying out prosecutions in Court and drafting acts related to firefighting.
Objective
- Conducting scientific and systematic fire investigations to identify the causes, sources and circumstances of fires and to submit recommendations for fire prevention measures and improving the effectiveness of firefighting operations.
- Implement effective fire prosecutions that can provide lessons and fire safety awareness (deterrent).
- Drafting draft acts related to firefighting and regulations thereunder.
Customer Charter
- Our commitment is to ensure that all fire investigations and the preparation of investigation papers for violations of the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341) are carried out systematically and effectively.
With that we promise to:
- Complete the fire investigation paperwork within fourteen (14) days after the fire investigation is initiated.
- Complete an investigation paper for violations of the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341) within twenty-one (21) days from the date the complaint is received.
Function
- Prepare policies and Standing Orders of the Director General regarding the implementation of fire investigations.
- Prepares Standing Orders of the Director General relating to the acquisition of premises and property under section 46 of the Act.
- Prepare procedures for collecting samples and data as evidence.
Provide witness interrogation procedures based on sections 42 and 43 of the Act. - Studying forensic science techniques in fire investigations.
- Review the legal requirements for conducting fire investigations.
Conduct fire investigations for major cases of national importance and those involving government buildings. - Become an expert witness in Court.
- Provide guidelines and procedures for sample analysis in the laboratory.
- Analyze investigation results to be used as policies and procedures for an industry and JBPM
- Provide effective policies and Standing Orders of the Director General of Prosecutions.
- Reviewing legal requirements in prosecution.
- Conduct investigations into cases of violations of the Act pursuant to the powers under sections 38, 39, 41, 42 and 43 of the Act.
- Carrying out prosecution of cases in court.
- Carrying out compounding of offences.
- Publication of Prosecution Case Journal.
- Conduct a study of the requirements of the Fire Services Act 1988 and subsidiary laws.
- Review and prepare draft amendments to the Fire Services Act 1988.
- Review and prepare draft regulations related to the Fire Services Act 1988.
- Providing legal advisory services related to the Fire Services Act 1988 and subsidiary laws under the Act
