Firefighters rescue 10 members of a family trapped in floodwater

HULU SELANGOR: A family of 10 who were enjoying a holiday at Sungai Pinang Waterfall, Batang Kali, here, faced a terrifying moment when they were caught in a head-on collision today.

Those aged between six and 63 were believed to have been trapped at the scene for almost four hours.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Norazam Khamis said his department received an emergency call at 4.36 pm.

He said a team of seven members with machinery from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the scene of the incident.

"Based on initial reports, there are 10 victims, consisting of four boys and two girls.

"Meanwhile, two men and two women are still on the other side of the river due to the headwaters flowing from the upstream," he said when contacted today.

Norazam said all the victims, who were from Sungai Buloh, were safe and uninjured.

According to him, the fire department is conducting rescue operations for all victims.

"Currently, firefighters have managed to get across the river and are in the process of moving the victims to a safe place."

"Updates on the rescue work will be communicated from time to time," he said.
