11 June 2021 – Emergency Medical Rescue Services Team or better known as Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Malaysia and the Malaysian Society for Traumatology and Emergency Medicine (MASTEM), has established a special team, the Emergency Medical Rescue Services Team, better known as the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS). All the expertise of these members was trained and accredited by the Malaysian Association of Traumatology and Emergency Medicine (MASTEM) in 2004. The main objective of the EMRS team is to provide knowledge and skills in initial assessment and management of victims at the scene to team members so that initial emergency care can be initiated and subsequently reduce mortality and morbidity. Among the tasks and responsibilities carried out by this team are to implement emergency medical care services for firefighters and also health checks for other special teams such as HAZMAT, PPDA and search and rescue teams before and after training or during operations, in addition to implementing emergency medical care services for victims involved in accidents or any incidents on land, water and air and conducting health assessments on victims to restore breathing, control bleeding and stabilize victims before handing them over to the hospital. For the Sarawak Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, a total of 213 people have been accredited and appointed as unit members with a composition of 12 people for each station that -UPA- has this team. This team is supervised and led by TPgB II Melvin anak Amuk, Head of the Padungan Fire and Rescue Station. This team is also equipped with special machinery that we often see coming out with the station's Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) machinery, as well as other medical equipment. Among the extraordinary operations that this team has ever undergone is when -UPA- helped a woman give birth to a baby in an EMRS machinery on 9 November 2018 at the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station. Hopefully the EMRS team will continue to provide the best service to the community regardless of time and place.
